Wilderness
Wilderness – A Paradise of Beaches, Forests & Adventure
A ribbon of beach, lake and forest strung along the Garden Route between Mossel Bay and Knysna, Wilderness lives up to its name more than most places that borrow the word. The Touw River winds through indigenous forest into a chain of lakes ideal for a slow morning paddle, while the beach itself stretches on largely undisturbed. A gentler, less polished stop than its Garden Route neighbours, and better for it.

Best time to visit the Wilderness
The best time to visit Wilderness is during the summer months from November to March, when warm temperatures, long sunny days and calm seas create ideal conditions for exploring its beaches, lagoons and lush forests. This is the perfect season for kayaking on the Touw River, hiking through the Wilderness National Park and enjoying outdoor adventures. The shoulder seasons of April–May and September–October are also excellent, offering fewer crowds, mild weather and beautiful landscapes. Winter (June–August) is cooler and wetter, but the region remains green and peaceful, making it a great time for nature lovers seeking tranquillity.
